125-feet Ambedkar statue in Vijayawada
The statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in Vijayawada is the tallest statue of Ambedkar, the fourth tallest statue in India and one of the 40 tallest statues in the world.
Three and a half months ago, on 14 April 2023, a 125 feet tall statue of Babasaheb was inaugurated in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. The total height of this statue is 175 feet with an 30 feet high platform. After this, the grand statue of Dr Ambedkar was installed in Vijayawada city of Andhra Pradesh.
It is a matter of great pride to install two 125 feet tall statues of Dr BR Ambedkar in the two Telugu speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This is a great honor to the father of our Constitution.
Swarajya Maidan in the center of Vijayawada city of Andhra Pradesh, in which ‘Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Smriti Vanam’ or ‘Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial’ is under construction, it will be completed by 26 November 2023. A 125 feet (38 m) tall statue of the architect of the Constitution has been installed in this memorial.
This 125 feet high bronze statue is installed on an 80 feet high platform or base building. The total height of this statue with the platform is 205 feet (62.48 meters).

In 2015, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu had announced the ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Smriti Vanam’ Project on the occasion of Babasaheb’s 125th birth anniversary. Its cost was ₹ 200 crores. The project was to be implemented in Inavolu village of Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. In this project, there was a plan to build a grand memorial of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and his 125 feet tall statue.
But even after four years of coming to power, he could not complete this work. Later Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government was formed. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy abandoned Naidu’s ‘Dr. Ambedkar Project’, and decided to build a new Ambedkar Project in Vijayawada, which also had a grand monument to Babasaheb and his 125 feet tall statue. On 9 July 2020, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone of 125 feet tall statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in Vijayawada.
It was decided to make this statue on the occasion of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary, so the height of this statue was also kept at 125 feet.
Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy renamed ‘Swarajya Maidan’ (formerly known as ‘PWD Maidan’) as ‘Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Swarajya Maidan’. The statue was initially planned to be unveiled on 14 April 2023, but the work on the statue and memorial could not be completed. The work of Dr BR Ambedkar Smriti Vanam will be completed on 26 November 2023.
Features of the Biggest Ambedkar statue in Andhra Pradesh
- Vijayawada Ambedkar statue opening date : The 125-feet tall statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh will be unveiled on Constitution Day on 26 November 2023, although it was installed in August 2023.
- Apart from the grand Ambedkar statue, some of the structures at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh are still under construction. The memorial will be ready before 26th November 2023.
- The Dr BR Ambedkar Smriti Vanam or the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial in Vijayawada is spread over 20 acres. Initially only 7 acres of land was available for the memorial, but the remaining constructions had to be removed and another 13 acres of land was made available for the memorial.

Other tall statues of Ambedkar
The 125 feet tall statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in Hyderabad was unveiled on 14 April 2023. A total of 175 feet tall including the base building, this statue is the second tallest statue of Dr Ambedkar in the world, as well as the 5th tallest statue in India.
The Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Welfare Society in Jaipur, Rajasthan also has a tall statue of Babasaheb, which is currently the third tallest statue of Dr. Ambedkar, although there is no information about its height. (see photo)
In 2019, the Telangana government installed a 27 feet 6 inch tall statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Center for Dalit Studies in Borabanda, Hyderabad. This is the fourth tallest statue of Babasaheb at present.

450 feet high ‘Statue of Equality’ in Mumbai
The Statue of Equality is the 350 feet tall statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is being erected in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The statue will have a total height of 450 feet including a 100 feet high plinth or foundation building.
The work of this memorial is going on at a slow pace and the grand statue will be completed in 2026. Ambedkar’s Statue of Equality will be the second tallest statue in India and the third or fourth tallest statue in the world.
On 14 April 2022, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced the construction of the “world’s tallest statue of Babasaheb” in Bhopal. But he did not give any information about the height of the statue. If decided to install the statue, it is likely to be more than 100 feet tall.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s importance and his popularity have increased greatly in all the states of India.
