The 125 feet tallest statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in Hyderabad was unveiled on 14 April 2023. A total of 175 feet tall including the base building, this statue is the 2nd-tallest statue of Dr. Ambedkar in the world, as well as the 5th tallest statue in India. On the other hand, the construction work of a giant 450-ft tall statues of Babasaheb is also going on in Mumbai. Dr Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad
125 feet tall Dr Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad
The base of the Ambedkar statue in Hyderabad is a 50 feet tall circular building, which is a replica of the old Indian Parliament building. This memorial contains Babasaheb’s photos, books and other materials.
It took 7 years to make this statue. In 2017, the Telangana government had decided to install a 125 feet tall statue of the architect of the Constitution in the state.
Chief Minister of Telangana K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone of a 125-foot-tall statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar on 14 April 2016, on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary. On 14th April 2023, on his 132nd birth anniversary, the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was unveiled in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana.
The grand statue was unveiled by the Chief Minister of the state, KC Rao. On this occasion Dr. Ambedkar’s grandson Adv. Prakash Ambedkar was also present.
About 50,000 people were present on the occasion of the unveiling of this magnificent statue. The ceremony was performed according to Buddhist customs, and Buddhist monks chanted at this time.
The statue has been erected near the new Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.

The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial is built on 11.4 acres of land in NTR Garden in the city of Hyderabad. This Memorial has been developed as an excellent tourist destination. The Ambedkar Memorial has a garden, 125-ft tall grand statue, statue foundation building, museum, library, conference hall and other structures.
Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial is near Hussain Sagar Lake. The lake houses the world’s tallest intact stone Buddha statue, standing at 18 meters (58 ft). Thus the grand statues of Lord Buddha and Bodhisattva Ambedkar are standing at the same place.
Features of the grand statue of Dr Ambedkar
- The 125 feet (38 m) tall statue of Babasaheb stands on a 50 feet high foundation building, which is a replica of our old Indian Parliament building.
- The total height of the Dr Ambedkar statue including the pedestal is 175 feet (53.34 m). The statue is 45.5 feet wide.
- The plinth on which the statue stands is three storeyed and has a total built up area of 26,258 square feet. The structure houses a museum which houses several articles and photographs depicting the life history of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. There is also a library with audio-visuals on the life of Dr. Ambedkar.
- This 125 feet statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar is the 4th tallest statue in India and one of the top 90 tallest statues in the world.
- If we consider the total height of the statues including the pedestal or base building, this 175 feet tall statue is the 4th tallest statue in India and one of the top 40 tallest statues in the world.
- Famous architect Ram Sutar and his son Anil Ram Sutar have made this grand Ambedkar statue.
- The Dr BR Ambedkar Smritivanam or Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial is spread over an area of 11.4 acres, with a grand statue, foundation building, museum, library, conference hall and other structures.
- Spread over 11 acres, the entire complex is landscaped and landscaped in 2.93 acres of greenery, apart from providing parking facility for approximately 450 cars. There are two lifts for visitors to the top of the platform to reach the feet of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.
- The statue shows Babasaheb holding the Indian Constitution in a hand. A copy of the constitution (as a book) is also kept in the statue’s structure of this constitution.
- Ambedkar statue cost in Telangana – The cost of the entire statue is around Rs 146.5 crore. 791 tons of stainless steel and 9 tons of bronze have been used for this statue.

Other tall statues of Ambedkar
A 125 feet tall statue of Dr. Ambedkar is installed in the city of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. This statue will be unveiled on January 24, 2024. The 125-ft Ambedkar statue stands on an 80 feet high pedestal, and the total height of the statue including the base building will be 205 feet. In terms of overall height, the Vijayawada’s Ambedkar statue is 30 feet taller than the Hyderabad’s Ambedkar statue (175 feet).
It is a matter of great pride to install two 125 feet tall statues of Babasaheb in the two Telugu speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. This is a great honor of the architect of our constitution.
The Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Welfare Society in Jaipur, Rajasthan also has a tall statue of Babasaheb, which is currently the 3rd tallest statue of Dr. Ambedkar. Although there is no information about its height. (see photo)
In 2019, the Telangana government installed a 27 feet 6 inch tall statue of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Center for Dalit Studies in Borabanda, Hyderabad. This is the 5th tallest statue of Babasaheb at present.
450 feet high ‘Statue of Equality’ in Mumbai
The Statue of Equality is the 350 feet tall statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is being erected in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The statue will have a total height of 450 feet including a 100 feet high plinth or foundation building.
The work of this memorial is going on at a slow pace and the grand statue will be completed in 2026. Ambedkar’s Statue of Equality will be the third or fourth tallest statue in the world.
On 14 April 2022, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced the construction of the “world’s tallest statue of Babasaheb” in Bhopal. But he did not give any information about the height of the statue. If decided to install the statue, it is likely to be more than 100 feet tall.
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s importance and his popularity have increased greatly in all the states of India.
